Our purpose and actions

Our purpose
Since our humble, yet mission-driven beginnings almost 170 years ago, Dole has believed that good, healthy food should be more like sunshine – available for all.
This is why our rallying cry of “Sunshine for All” is important not only for us, but for all people across the world. We want to champion an equitable world where everyone – irrespective of age, income, location, race or gender – has access to healthy nutrition, but where this access does not come at the cost of the planet.

Our purpose in action

Addressing Food Insecurity in Jackson, MS
We’re kicking off the Sunshine for All program in Jackson, MS—a city with one of America’s largest food deserts and only one grocery store for every 10,000 residents—to address the critical issue of food insecurity. With the help of local organizations, we’re making healthy foods accessible to the Jackson community, and eventually, other areas where nutritional, affordable produce and vegetables are out of reach.
Supporting healthcare workers in KSA
While healthcare workers are supporting the health of their patients, we’re supporting theirs. By donating nutrition packs filled with Canned Pineapple to hospitals and health care workers, we’re making sure they have plenty of Vitamin C to keep going strong.
Supporting Frontline Workers in Kuwait
Nutrition is of the utmost importance during these days. In Kuwait, we’re donating nutrition packs with Pineapple Juice and Canned Pineapple to hospital workers, frontline workers, and people in need, making sure everyone has the nutrients they need to stay healthy.
Feeding America
We’re continuing ongoing donations of up to 1.5 million pounds of packaged fruit every year to U.S. food banks, as well as making additional cash donations to help keep good nutrition in the homes of our American families.
Help us by donating to Feeding America.
Feeding Singapore
With the help of The Food Bank of Singapore, we’re distributing Dole Care Packs that include canned fruits and Fruit Bowls® to 200,000 needy Singaporeans.
Supporting the City of Jackson
In the U.S., we’re partnering with the Mayor of Jackson, MS, Mississippi’s Disaster Relief Action, and Boys & Girls Clubs to support students and families. At Galloway Elementary, Dole is providing 2,100 cases of Fruit Bowls® and Fridge Packs with notes of hope and encouragement, creating healthy meals for underserved families, and making a cash donation to fix flood damage at underserved schools.
Help us by donating to the Disaster Relief Fund to support Jackson, MS.
World Central Kitchen
In California, we’re partnering with Michelin-starred chef José Andrés and World Central Kitchen to distribute Dole fruit products to meal prep centers in underserved areas, and to assist with finding prep spaces.
Help us by donating to World Central Kitchen.
Protecting healthcare workers in the Philippines
In the Philippines we’re donating fresh and dried fruit to 7,000 healthcare workers in 17 hospitals. Also, 300 Healthcare workers at the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM) will receive 30 days’ supply of Dole juice that is high in Vitamin C. RITM is at the frontline of doing COVID-19 testing for the Philippines population, and we remain committed to their health.
Meals for Mumbai
Together with Future Retail and other partners, we put together meal packs for frontline healthcare workers in 3 government hospitals across Mumbai, helping to feed 5,000 healthcare practitioners daily for 5 days.
Keeping London’s Homeless Healthy
In support of homeless charity St Mungo’s temporary accommodation initiative, Dole is distributing 14,500 Fruit Bowls® to over 1,000 homeless Londonders currently housed in hotels. This gives people in desperate need of shelter access to the space and nutrition they need to self-isolate in safety and stay well during the health crisis.
